Have you received a letter regarding unclaimed property? You probably have some questions…

What is Unclaimed Property?

Unclaimed property is also known as abandoned property or lost money that the State of Florida is holding. They hold the funds from checks that were returned typically due to a bad address or the death of the recipient. This is from expired checks, life insurance, stocks and dividends, dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, credit balances, and refunds. It typically takes about 7 to 10 years for funds to be lost before they are given to the State of FL.

It could be funds for your old or current company, for you, or for a deceased relative. Details specific to your claim are in your letter.

How does the process work?

A: If the funds are for your business, simply sign the second page of the letter, the Unclaimed Property Recovery Agreement, and mail it back to my office. If the company is no longer active, send in a copy of your current driver’s license or text it to 561-221-2911.

If the funds are for you, simply sign the second page of the letter, the Unclaimed Property Recovery Agreement, and mail it back to my office with a copy of your current driver’s license, which you can text to 561-221-2911.

If the funds are for a deceased relative, you must sign an Unclaimed Property Recovery Agreement for your portion of the unclaimed funds. Since there are so many variables when it comes to these claims, contact my office before you send it back, or send it with a copy of your driver’s license, and I will contact you upon receipt. If you have extra time and a printer, print out the Estate Affidavit from the forms page and fill it out regarding your family specifics.

How do I know this is not a scam?

The State of Florida only allows licensed individuals to view your unclaimed assets. I am licensed as a private investigator, #C3300140. My license can be found at FDACS.

Why should I use a locator service to recover my funds?

Some claims are relatively easy, but each claim is unique. First, you will need to prove to the state that you are the owner of the funds, so you need to find proof that the address the check was lost, sometimes from decades ago. I can provide that proof for you as part of my fee.

If the funds are for a deceased individual, the claim is a lot trickier. The funds need to be divided and disbursed in a specific way depending on many different factors (role in the family, family structure, estate specifics, etc.), and each variant requires documentation that I can order for you and provide to the state for you. I can make this process easy and efficient.

If the funds are for your company, I can make this a quick, easy recovery because I know exactly what the state needs to see to pay the funds out expeditiously.

The State of Florida allows you to file a claim yourself, but you will find that they offer little to no assistance with your claims process. You will find that using an experienced locator, like myself, to file your claim will make your claim process many months, or even years, faster than if you were to attempt this on your own.

How does payment work?

You never pay me directly. I only get paid when your claim is approved. When you get issued your check from the state, they issue a check to me for the fee that you agree to on the Unclaimed Property Recovery Agreement at the beginning of the process. Payment typically takes 90 days after the claim is submitted to the State of FL. If, for some reason, the claim is not successful, I do not get paid, and you do not owe any expenses.

What makes this firm different from the other firms from which I have received letters?

My professional services incorporate over fifteen years of experience claiming lost funds. I am a certified paralegal and can navigate through the bureaucracy and the legal issues, like probate, that can otherwise complicate your claim. The competing firms are mostly private investigators and/or CPA firms. They specialize in finding people and/or financials. My experience has given me cutting-edge resources for finding and claiming correct companies and addresses. Additionally, I have worked for years as a probate paralegal, and I am a licensed private investigator with over fifteen years of unclaimed property experience. I can find correct heirs of estates, and I understand estates, how they are to be divided, and what needs to be filed for a successful claim.

Being a paralegal, I have direct access to a network of affordable attorneys who can assist you in the estate matters required for claims over $20,000. I can draft the legal documents for the attorney’s review, making this process even more affordable for you and your family. Hiring an attorney is typically a time-consuming and costly process. I make the entire experience easy, affordable, and efficient.

What if I do not want to send a copy of my driver’s license?

Go to the forms page and download the Notarized Sworn Statement. Print that, and it can be used in lieu of a driver’s license. https://estateresearchprocessing.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Notarized-Sworn-Statement.pdf
